Arrival Checklist for International Students

Welcome to Canada and Royal Pacific Institute!

To ensure a smooth transition and successful start to your studies, please complete the following important steps upon arrival:

Before You Travel

  • Confirm your flight details and accommodation arrangements.
  • Keep your Letter of Acceptance (LOA), valid study permit approval letter (Port of Entry Letter), and proof of funds easily accessible.
  • Carry copies of important documents, including passport, visa, study permit documents, and school admission letters.

Upon Arrival at the Canadian Border

  • Present your Letter of Acceptance, study permit approval letter, and valid passport to the immigration officer.
  • Obtain your study permit document issued at the port of entry.
     (Check that all information is correct, including school name and program duration.)
  • If your program includes a practicum or clinical placement, ensure you also receive your co-op work permit.

After Entering Canada

  • Report your arrival to Royal Pacific Institute.
     (Email a copy of your study permit and co-op work permit, if applicable, to the admissions office.)
  • Finalize your accommodation and local address.
     (Provide your updated address and contact information to the school.)
  • Apply for a British Columbia Services Card (Medical Services Plan – MSP).
     (Mandatory for stays longer than 6 months. Apply at BC MSP Website)
  • Obtain a Canadian SIM card or phone service for local communication.
  • Open a Canadian bank account if necessary for daily transactions.
  • Purchase a local transportation card (e.g., Compass Card) for convenient travel within the city.

Before Classes Begin

  • Attend the new student orientation session organized by Royal Pacific Institute.
  • Sign the Enrollment Contract with Royal Pacific Institute, as required by regulatory authorities.
  • Register for your courses and confirm your class schedule.
  • Pay any outstanding tuition fees if applicable.
  • Purchase required textbooks and course materials.

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Maintain full-time enrollment throughout your study period.
  • Attend in-person classes regularly as required.
  • Keep your study permit valid and renew it well before expiry if needed.
  • Respect Canadian laws and school regulations.
  • Maintain good academic standing.
