At Royal Pacific Institute, the health and well-being of our students is a top priority.
We want to ensure that all international students understand how healthcare services work in Canada and how to access the medical support they need during their studies.
In Canada, basic medical services are publicly funded, and residents, including eligible international students, can apply for the Medical Services Plan (MSP) to cover most healthcare costs.
While doctor visits are generally covered under MSP, students should be aware that medications prescribed by doctors usually require out-of-pocket payment or private insurance coverage.
Students in Victoria have access to various healthcare options:
- Walk-in Clinics: For non-emergency medical care
- Emergency Services: For urgent or life-threatening conditions, students can visit hospital emergency rooms or call 911.
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Clinics: Students can seek holistic health support from licensed TCM practitioners, including at our own affiliated teaching clinic at Royal Pacific Institute.
We encourage all international students to familiarize themselves with local healthcare services to ensure timely care whenever needed.
